Abstract

The production capability of the Thai mold industry at present is progressing and developing continually. Mostly, it is small and medium enterprises. For Thailand, it is important to focus on Industry 4.0 to drive the development process of different kinds of products, making the country competitive in the market, and able to cover all the demands needed. However, Thailand’s adaptation to Industry 4.0 requires a focus on human resources, labor skills, and technology. Although Thailand has a reputation for producing a strong industrial supply, the result of an in-depth analysis of industrial development revealed that the country still has a shortage of skilled workers and technicians. Therefore, Thailand’s mold industry should focus on human resource development, investment capital, integration of modern technology with the production process, as well as proper management, for its efficiency and competitiveness in the mold manufacturing industry.

Abstract

This research intended to studying manufacturing factors that affact the production capability of the mold industry, small and medium enterprises in Thaland. This research is a survey research, use 282 questionaires set to collect information from mold and plastic industry enterpreneurs. The statistic used, mean and standard deviation, tested hypothesis by multiple regression analysis. The research result found out that manufacturing factors, the mold enterprises, small and medium enterprises in Thailand, overall has a high level of estimation, has a mean of 3.54. The production capbility has a high level of estimation, has a mean of 3.93. The result of hypotheses testing showed three manufacturing factors fields, such as manufacturing methods fields, material field, and machine field can mutually explain the change, the production ability of mold industry, small and medium enterprises in Thailand. Overall, 60.2 percentages (Adjusted R2 = .602) was statistically significant at the .01 and .05 level.

Abstract

This mixed methods research aimed to study production problems, business environment and competitive conditions, to compare production capacity classified by organizational characteristics factors, to study production and management factors that affect production capability, and to present a management approach to develop production capability for the mold industry among small and medium-sized enterprises competitiveness in the country. The 277 mold and plastic industry factories used for samples in quantitative data and the data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, Standard Deviation, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Qualitative research used In-depth interviews with the executives or representatives including of the mold industry establishments, Thai-German Institute, Thai Mold Industry Association, educational institution, Ministry of Industry, and financial institutions totaling 17 people, and a group discussion with executives/representatives of mold industry establishments, Thai-German Institute, Thai Mold Industry Association, educational institutions of 10 people, then all data were analyzed by SWOT analysis and synthesized by TOWS Matrix.

The research results revealed that: 1) Problems in production is unable to meet the consumers needs with full efficiency business environment. It depends on the buyer and seller. The competitive conditions were high, only for molds with moderate precision. 2) Production capability classified by organizational characteristics factors found that each aspect was different. 3) Production factors, in terms of production methods, raw materials, and machinery affects the overall productivity by 59.6% (Adjusted R2 = .596) 4) management factor, control, planning, and organization affects the overall productivity by 73.60 percent (Adjusted R2 = .736). 5) Management guidelines for improving productivity for competition are: management to develop production processes to international standards, and the development of competitiveness.
